What Customers Are Saying:

The price for a 24 Volt Lithium-ion trimmer is a great value but the line is .06 instead of the .08 that some users may be used to.

The line lasts a long time and the automatic line feed system works great.

The battery power has improved the more it has been used – make sure to fully charge it before initial use.

As we often see with battery-powered lawn tools there are some customers that have issues with how long the batteries last and that seems to be the main complaint with the Worx WG165 so as always we caution that if you have a large yard – a cordless trimmer may not be for you.

In-Depth Review

Unlike most of its rivals, Worx provides plenty of trimmer line with the package. It comes with three pre-wound trimmer spools and since the trimmer doesn’t spin through the line as quickly as you are probably used to its a nice supply. The line lasts so well because of the patented co-polymer blend Worx uses. It’s supposed to be flexible so that when it hits hard surfaces such as your fence it bends instead of breaking but retains a great grass-cutting strength. When you do need more line you won’t even notice because the WG165 uses the Worx DNA2 DoubleHelix automatic line feeder to handle it for you. No tamping and stamping all over the sidewalk with this guy. When the line finally runs out the spool is easy to replace – no tools required.

Let’s get to the real story with this trimmer: the battery. Most cordless trimmers use 18Volt batteries so the upgrade to 24Volt is a nice boost. It’s light because of the Lithium-ion battery technology but don’t be deceived as it is powerful. It should be our motto but we’ll say it again: this cordless unit is not good for you if you have a large yard. But if you don’t it’s a great relief to be rid of the gas hogs or the annoying cords. The typical charge time for this battery is 20 minutes.

The 10-inch cutter radius isn’t the largest in the trimmer world but it covers sufficient ground and will use less line. It cuts tough weeds so that isn’t an issue. The Worx WG165 is really lightweight at only 5.9 pounds and the pivoting head and adjustable handle make it even more easy to maneuver and use. The rotating handle makes it quick and easy to switch between trimming and edging. If you’re taller or shorter you can adjust the height in a matter of seconds. The guard is adjustable to help protect from flying objects and it has wheels that make it easier to remain accurate when using the edger.
